A leave of absence should be requested in a written petition to the dean. The petition should state the reason for which the leave is desired and should specify the period of the leave. The leave should not exceed one year but may be renewed for at most another year.
For leave of absence to be availed of during the second half of the semester, faculty members concerned shall be required to indicate the class standing of the student (passing or failing) at the time of the application of the leave. No application for leave of absence shall be approved without the class standing being indicated by the instructors concerned. This should not be entered in the Official Report of Grades [As approved at the 822nd BOR meeting, July 31, 1972].
If a student withdraws after three-fourths of the total number of hrs. prescribed for the course have already elapsed, his/her instructors may submit a grade of “5” for him/her if his class standing up to the time of his withdrawal is below “3” [Art. 402, University Code, 1961].
No leave of absence shall be granted during the semester within two weeks before the last day of the classes.
If the inability of the student to continue his classes is for reasons of health or similar justifiable causes, his/her absence during this period shall be considered excused. In such cases, the student shall be required to apply for excuse from his absences. It shall be the responsibility of the student to present the excuse slip to the faculty members concerned [As originally approved at the 822nd BOR meeting, July 31, 1972].
A student who needs to go on LOA beyond the allowable period of two years should be advised to apply for honorable dismissal without prejudice to readmission.
Students who withdraw from a college without formal leave of absence shall have their registration privilege curtailed or entirely withdrawn [Art. 403, University Code, 1961].
A fee of P150 is charged to a student who goes on a leave of absence [As approved at the 966th BOR meeting, March 29, 1984].
The fine for students who go on absence without leave is P225, which is applied once for each continuous period of AWOL [As approved at the 1022nd BOR meeting, June 29, 1989].
