The BSPH program is a four-year course, the first three semesters of which are given in the College of Arts and Sciences and the succeeding years will be in the College of Public Health. The program incorporates two professional tracks: Population Health and Medical Laboratory Science.
Students in the Population Health (PH) track will study in more depth health outcomes, patterns of health determinants, health equity, and the policies and interventions that influence the optimal balance of identified determinants. The Population Health track specific outcomes include:
  1. Perform situational analyses in different health settings.
  2. Design an evidence-based action plan including basic monitoring and evaluation component to address as specific health issue by integrating learned principles and tools in health management, health promotion, public health surveillance, and environmental and occupational health assessment.
  3. Implement the said evidence-based action plan with minimal supervision to ensure adherence to learned principles and tools in health management, health promotion, public health surveillance, and environmental and occupational health assessment.
  4. Facilitate the formation and strengthening of strategic partnerships among key stakeholders to address specific public health issues and challenges.
While those taking the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) track will study additional courses on clinical laboratory-associated professional courses. The MLS track specific outcomes are:
  1. Implement collaborative researches on relevant areas of medical laboratory science.
  2. Perform appropriate laboratory tests in aid of diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and other public health issues/concerns.
  3. Contribute in the collection, analysis and projection of laboratory-related health information for improving health promotion and education strategies in addressing public health issues and advocacies.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the analysis of patterns and trends based on appropriate laboratory tests performed.
  5. Practice inter-professional approach in the operation of health care organization, facility and services.
With this curriculum, the graduates are expected to able to apply their professional skills in the provision of public health services through research, management, education and advocacy, to become innovative and socially-responsive leaders in their areas of specialization towards development of organizational, local, regional, and national policies.
